Privacy Policy

Privacy matters, especially on a site that talks about recovery. You should know what information we collect, why, and what happens to it. This policy explains all of it in plain language. If anything is not clear, email info@scarsnall.com and we will answer.

1. WHO WE ARE

Scars and All is operated by Scars and All, Inc., based at 414 N Central Ave Glendale, Ca 91203. For privacy questions, contact info@scarsnall.com.

2. WHAT WE COLLECT

We only collect what we need to run the site, respond to you, ship your order, or send you emails you asked for.

Information you give us:

  • Contact form. Your name, email, and whatever you write in your message.
  • Email signup. Your first name and email address. Optionally, the type of updates you want.
  • Shop purchases. Your name, shipping address, billing address, email, phone number (if provided), and the details of your order. Payment card information is entered directly into our payment processor and is not stored by us.
  • Guest and partnership inquiries. Whatever you send us, bio, links, contact details, and the context of your inquiry.
  • Podcast submissions. If you send in a story, voicemail, or question for the show, we collect what you submit and the contact details you share with it.

Information collected automatically:

  • Log and device data. IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, time on page, and general location (city / region / country level).
  • Cookies and similar technologies. Small files stored in your browser that help the site work and help us understand how people use it. See Section 6 for the details.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see how the site is performing in aggregate.

Information from third parties:

  • Podcast platforms (Spotify, Apple, YouTube) share aggregated listener data with us. We do not receive individual identifiers from listeners on those platforms.
  • Email platform. Our email platform gives us open rates, click-through data, and unsubscribe status for our list.
  • Payment processor. Shopify Payments confirms transactions but does not share full payment card numbers with us.

3. SENSITIVE TOPICS AND WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO SHARE

Because Scars and All covers addiction and recovery, some of you will share personal information with us that is deeply personal, your history, your current situation, a family member’s story. You share this voluntarily. We treat it with care, but you should know:

  • Anything you email, submit through the contact form, or send us is stored in our systems and read by our team.
  • We do not sell personal stories.
  • We do not share your submission publicly without your consent. If we ever want to use something you sent us in an episode, blog, or social post, we will ask.
  • Please do not send information about someone else (a family member, a friend, a spouse) without their knowledge.

If you would rather stay anonymous when you reach out, use a pseudonym and an email that does not identify you. We will treat you the same either way.

4. WHY WE COLLECT IT

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your messages, questions, and inquiries
  • Send you emails you signed up for
  • Process and ship orders from the shop
  • Run and improve the site, the podcast, and the products we offer
  • Understand which content is landing and what people care about
  • Keep the site secure and prevent fraud or abuse
  • Meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations

We do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

5. WHO WE SHARE IT WITH

We share information only with the people and services that help us run Scars and All, and only what they need to do their job.

  • Email platform: to send you the emails you subscribed to
  • Payment processor: to process shop orders securely
  • Shipping and fulfillment providers: to get your order to you
  • Website host and infrastructure providers: to run the site
  • Analytics providers: to measure site performance
  • Advertising and social platforms: if and where we run ads or promote content
  • Professional advisors: accountants, lawyers, auditors, when needed
  • Law enforcement or authorities: only if legally required, or to protect someone from harm

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing. We do not rent your email list.

If Scars and All is ever part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that deal. Your rights under this policy carry over.

6. COOKIES

Cookies help the site work, remember you between visits, and show us how people use scarsnall.com.

Types we use:

  • Essential cookies — needed for the site to load and function (cart, login, security). These cannot be turned off.
  • Analytics cookies — help us count visitors, see popular pages, and improve the site.
  • Marketing cookies — used if and where we run ads to measure whether they are working.

You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may break parts of the site. Where required by law, we will show you a cookie banner giving you a choice before non-essential cookies load.

7. YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:

  • Access — ask what we have on you
  • Correction — fix anything inaccurate
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your information
  • Portability — get a copy in a usable format
  • Opt-out — of marketing emails (unsubscribe link on any email) or of the sale/sharing of personal information (we do not sell your information, but you can confirm this in writing)
  • Restriction or objection — limit or object to certain uses
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent
  • Non-discrimination — for exercising your rights

California residents have specific rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined by California law.

EU/UK residents. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR/UK GDPR. Our legal bases for processing are consent (for marketing emails and non-essential cookies), contract (to fulfill shop orders), legitimate interest (to run and secure the site), and legal obligation (for tax and compliance records).

To exercise any of these rights, email info@scarsnall.com with the details of your request. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before acting on the request.

8. HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the reason we collected it, or as long as the law requires:

  • Email list subscribers — until you unsubscribe, and a short archival period after that
  • Shop orders — for as long as tax, accounting, and consumer protection rules require (typically several years)
  • Contact form submissions — for as long as needed to handle your inquiry, plus a reasonable archival period
  • Analytics data — in aggregated or anonymized form, on a rolling basis per the analytics tool’s retention settings
  • Guest and podcast submission material — for as long as needed to run the podcast and archive its history

When we no longer need information, we delete it or anonymize it.

9. HOW WE PROTECT IT

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and vendor selection based on their own security practices. No system is one hundred percent secure. If there is ever a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by law.

10. CHILDREN

Scars and All is intended for adults. The site, the shop, and the email list are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with information, email info@scarsnall.com and we will delete it.

Some podcast content covers addiction, mental health, and adult themes and may not be appropriate for younger listeners. Parents and guardians should decide what is appropriate for their household.

11. INTERNATIONAL VISITORS

Scars and All is operated from the United States. If you visit the site from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. By using the site, you consent to this transfer.

12. THIRD-PARTY SITES AND PLATFORMS

Links from scarsnall.com to third-party sites, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, guest sites, resources, sponsors, take you off our site. Once you leave, this policy no longer applies. Check the privacy policy of whatever site you land on.

13. DO NOT TRACK

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no industry standard for how sites should respond to it, and we currently do not respond to DNT signals. You can still manage cookies through your browser settings and unsubscribe from emails at any time.

14. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We can update this policy when we change how we handle information, when we add new tools, or when the law changes. The current version lives at this URL, and the effective date at the top will change with any update. If we make a material change, we will let subscribers know by email or by a notice on the site.
